If he were alive today, tomorrow would have been John Lennon's 65th birthday.
Which almost seems strange to imagine (no pun intended), even though the two surviving Beatles are of the same age and Yoko Ono is now in her seventies. It is wierd enough hearing Lennon mention in his last interviews some of his favourite musicians of the previous five years, such as The B-52s, Madness, The Pretenders, Kate Bush, Bruce Springsteen, The Clash, Queen, Bob Marley... It is a surprise that he heard of some of these people, let alone appreciate them.
Like other iconic figures of our times it can be easy to be fixated on Lennon and the void his loss has brought, but life moves on and he has left a legacy of work to cause debate, criticism, and admiration alike.
But it still seems strange that he has been gone for a generation now.
