Harry Wants to Fight!

I am not sure what to make of these reports! Does he say he wants to so that it looks good, does he genuinely want to...
In any case, saying that he wants to fight in Iraq isn't clever any way you look at it! It wouldn't be ideal to waste taxpayers money and resources protecting a Royal in a dangerous area, where no westerner is safe anywhere in the country, when the money and resources could be spent on other fair police and/or millitary means!

but is it right to spend the taxpayer's money on training someone for a job that they will not do? Harry went into training because he wanted to be a SERVING officer - if the Army high-command didn't want him to serve, then they shouldn't have accepted him in the first place for the training!

I don't think they thought he would be sent to somewhere like Iraq tho! I think the last Royal to see armed combat too close for comfort was the future King George VI and that was during the First World War!

Yeah, but generally when one joins the Army, you don't expect to be deployed to Bognor, do you?! You know you're going to be sent somewhere rubbish where people aren't going to like you! The problem was always going to be "what to do with Harry"...just like his Uncle Edward (and to a certain extent, his dad) he was never going to be a shining academic and career choices were going to be limited. In the real world you'd see Harry flipping burgers! I have no problem with him being sent abroad, and find the whole argument a little bit silly, but if they're throwing such a tizzy for Harry, what's it going to be like when Wills "passes out"?! I'm impressed at the courage of their convictions.

Sorry that was such a long post!

Well I am impressed by the courage of their convictions, but ironically their positions leaves little room for options.
The problem is that Prince Harry is third in line to the throne. That has, from birth, made him a very potential target for terrorists and the like. You put him in Iraq and the poor lad becomes a No 1 target for Al Qaeda. Far better for him to have a non combat position within the ranks!

Chimpette, you've obviously never been to Bognor - there should definitely be an armed presence there. :-)

That's true...but I do live near Torquay so I can quite imagine!! :D

Well you know what King George V thought of Bognor! ;)
