Mark Oaten to stand down

(BBC Online)
You don't have to be in the same political party as someone, in order to feel sorry for them if they fall into a pit of scandal which eventually results in their having to stand down as an MP! And whereas I was disgusted at what Oaten had done to his family, his career etc.. by indulging in his own sordid sexual fantasies, I am also aware how fragile people can be, not least politicians, and how sorry he seems to be as well. He needs our support and consideration, not our ridicule.
Still, at least he has his family and a forgiving wife, some don't have that luxury for having done less!

Looking from another perceptive, he has a wife who seems to be as "media-whore" as him.
They can probably become another version of the Hamiltons in the media circles.

Anyway, after disastrous local election results in Winchester, now the Libdems will try to hold.

As I said, he is lucky! As for Winchester, we shall see at the next election. I think it is a credible Tory gain, but it would been even more so had Oaten decided to remain as MP

I think you can be right about Winchester.

Anyway I felt sorry for him and his family when the scandal emerged. I think he got totally wrong the "rehabilitation" strategy. The "hair loss" claim and the various reality shows appearance helped to cover him of ridicule more than rehabilitate him.
I'm not sad he's standing down...seeing him reminded me of the " bizarre sex act too revolting to describe"...and it's not a good thought!

A rather cruel jibe at Mrs. Oaten. Her husband his probably made the right decision for the interests of his family.

I admit that it wasn't very nice...but she seems so willing to give interviews to Hello and to the Daily Mail to tell her story. The Mail interview was actually pretty good apart some bizarre points in and there.

Oaten impressed me big style during his leadeship campaign - cruel how things sometimes turn out

Andrea, maybe Mark and Belinda Oaten were under undue pressure from the press and felt that this was the easy option!
