"but for reasons I don't exactly know why, I quite like her" - very weird, but, likewise! The worst Tory Ann of all time, of course, was Winterton. Remember her? Fascist pig! And so was her hubbie Nicholas!
Likewise. I remember being with three people in a Commons lift during the Cockle pickers furore, and Ann Winterton entered the lift and we all silently glared at her. She did look a bit embarrassed, although I hope she is ashamed of the nasty jokes she made at their expense
Bloody hell, I wasn't even thinking about that cockle pickers business when I wrote wot I wrote, I was remembering stuff from way back in the apartheid years!
Well just to reiterate, we were just talking about Ann Winterton, not Ann Widdecombe. On a personal level,I don't like the former, but am rather fond of the latter

EXTERMINATE Ann Widdecombe.
Please.
Must remember to pull the sofa away from the wall so I can hide behind it.
Thats cruel BB! I don't always agree with Ann Widdecombe, she does unnerve me slightly, but for reasons I don't exactly know why, I quite like her

The phrase cockle pickers brings out the child in me and does make me giggle. I've no idea why.
Maybe because it rhymes with knickers.
Widdecombe may have some loathsome opinions, but she does have credibility. She stands by her principles.
One or two Labour MPs could learn something.
