The New Gang of Four

I saw enough on the news last night where the taped recordings were concerned to feel rather depressed about this. If the four peers concerned are found guilty by an investigation, then they should be punished. Perhaps the Labour Party could have the Whip withdrawn from them? But it has opened up a whole situation where it is clear that we need tougher rules and dealing with a situation where it is clear that the House of Lords is a soft target for those who are willing to pay for legislation to be made in their favour.

I think the timing on this is highly suspect. Such activities rea most likely to have been common knowledge, if not common practice for some time.

So why now ? And did anyone put the Times up to this ?

I think the answer may be more complex that you'd first assume.
