That AV Result
A pleasant surprise given how some Tories were gleefully mentioning how some Labour MP's felt jittery. Now they have a good chance of putting their case directly to the electorate as to why they feel AV is unfair. That's a dialogue I'd be interested to watch, especially with facts like these

Yes I looked at the BBC analysis. The problem with it is that if you change the voting system you change the parties and the politics. So its not really valid, but I think it does show Gorodn Brown real motivation in changing how we vote.
Also it seemed to me to say that our politics would become less stable, which has to be a bad thing for the country.
If you added fair constituency sizes into the mix there would be little difference except a slightly bigger Lib Dem contingent and perhaps a more earth shattering change in 97 ( but its likely that Conservative tactics would have changed earlier if such a defeat was clearly in prospect ).
There are a lot of bad things about AV, but the good thing is it will weaken the main parties. It will of course let the BNP and racial/religious parties go wild - but then as with opening the flood gates of immigration for votes your party doesn't seem to care much about tomorrow - only the next ballot.
Having said that I'm not automatically against it, there are some features that may help our democracy. What I would rather have is a different voting system for the house of Lords replacement.
But on an AV referendum personally I think the country is going to be so traumatised by paying the Bill for Labour's last 5 years in office that they will seek strong decisive govt as an alternative to being bankrupt and run by some weak coalitions under the IMF/EU.
