Why I Love Islington
Given that I seem to be visiting the place a lot lately, and likely will for a while to come, I thought I would blog on why I love the place :-)
/ My girlfriend lives there
/ Three fantastic people are standing for Labour in St George's Ward in Islington, and if you live there do go and vote for them! :-). Ruth also has some fantastic friends who live there :-)
/ It's a Tory no-go area
/ I have seen a newsagents which has Guardian advertising, which makes a refreshing change from the Mail/Express/Sun advertising I see in front of newsagents in a lot of other places
/ I like the Middle Class/Working Class mix. Street by street in some areas I have seen
/ They have a good Chinese Takeaway in Caledonian Rd, near the Texaco Petrol Station
/ They have good pubs. "King of Denmark", and "The Crown" last I saw
/ I like the Churches I have seen there, and what I have seen so far, the Anglican "Church on the Corner" is quite good
/ It's easy to get into Central London from there, plus it more or less is in Central London
/ I can walk into Islington from Kings Cross. Important when arriving at night and not wanting to wait for a bus.
/ The people seem quite nice
/ It features in Monopoly
/ "About a Boy" by Nick Hornby is also set in Islington
/ It has some fantastic Georgian architecture
/ Did I say it's a left wing area? ;)
