James Ch 2 Vs 1-13 is highly challenging at the best of times. The call not to show favouritism is one thing, but when the detail is explained, not to show favouritism to those many instinctively value more. The rich, the powerful, we all have to ask ourselves how often we have ignored those who seem insignificant compared to those we instinctively gravitate towards. Have we ignored those who are poor, those who are not charismatic, those who are not so good looking? One of the great evangelists of his time, Billy Graham, once said that if he could live his life again, he would not gravitate so much towards the rich and powerful.
We need to constantly examine ourselves and ask who we value and why?
