Thought for the Day DCCXLIII

Ecclesiastes Ch 2 vs 1-11 has the author saying he denied himself nothing of the usual daily pleasures of a man with wealth and power. Hobbies, land, (and bear in mind this is over two thousand years ago), a harem! But nothing there sustained and fulfilled him
Pleasures are transitory and meaningless in themselves, and the more we chase after them in themselves, we make an idol of them and the more dissatisfied and demand more of the same. I believe the phrase is diminishing returns. We have to see the pleasures in life as part of something more meaningful and important
