Thought for the Day CMLVIII

1 Chronicles Ch 21 Vs 1-17 is very hard to read, not least because it seems hard to understand. King David takes a census against God's wishes. Why God objects is not clear but there are indications that it was a census on how many men would be available for fighting. This in turn indicates a lack of trust and also if this information ended up in the wrong hands then Israel would be in a vulnerable state
God, and this is even more bewildering, asks David what punishment should befall Israel, David asks God to make the decision for him but to spare him. A plague then befalls Israel and Jerusalem is nearly destroyed. Clearly Israel was undergoing a great crisis
Trust is vital, but not should not be confused with blind faith, but unless people work together and have trust then things can fall apart
