On This Day in History: 1985, First Muslim in Space

 The Space Shuttle Discovery took off from Cape Canaveral on 17th June 1985, for a week long mission. Among them was Prince Sultan Salman Al Saud, a member of the Saudi Royal Family. The first member of any Royal Family in Space, the first Saudi, the first Arab, and the first Muslim. He served as a payload specialist on this mission

Since then Prince Sultan Salman is still in public life and is now a government minister in Saudi Arabia
