Decline in Labour Party Membership

Such a decline is concerning, but three things need to be borne in mind. First this is midterm, and a drop in membership can happen then, secondly the Labour Party still has considerably more members than the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, and thirdly, a lot of those who have left are arch Corbynistas.

Of course, with regards to the third point, it is a pity that those concerned did not see the need for self reflection and reform, and if they are going to be a hindrance, it is better that they leave. I think what Starmer has done with Labour is nothing short of incredible, from being a Party that looked like it would take ten years to recover sufficiently, to becoming a Party that might win the next general election. But win or lose, in the long term, that will be of enormous benefit to Labour
